Just a Thought.......

Rev.DaveFischer Rev.DaveFischer In previous columns, I have written about my ongoing education in the ways of Lexington. This week, I am happy to report that it was my wife who got “learned”.

As usual, we were staying at the Rock House. And, as is her custom, her trusty cell phone was on the nightstand in case any of the children needed to reach her.

As day began to break, she started a strange ritual. She would pick up her phone, put it to her ear, then look at it, as if it had just failed her.

Once, twice, three times she repeated this pattern. Then, she glanced out the window and spoke out loud. “It’s the cows,” she said.

Half-asleep, I agreed. “Yes, honey, they have lots of cows out here.”

“It’s the noise they’re making.” she continued.

Again, I chimed assent. “Sometimes they make lots of noise.”

“But they sound just like my phone vibrating against the night table.”

Mystery explained. She had been reaching for her phone trying to answer a cow’s bellow.

And the point? Wherever we are, it is necessary to acclimate ourselves appropriately to the sounds lest we end up looking foolish.

The preacher part of me wants to ask you if you know the sound of Gabriel’s trumpet, but that’s pushing it.
