Superintendent’s Corner

Frances M. McArthur, Ph.D.
Superintendent of Schools Lexington Independent School District

Summer is here, but many Lexington secondary students are still working on course acceleration classes or working on-line to regain credits or improve skills they haven’t quite mastered. Our students are a wonderful example of life-long learning and year around learning, as they come by our schools between family vacations and summer camps to work out in our gymnasium and take on-line classes or exams for the classes they are working on at their computers at home.

Many of our elementary students are participating in our Summer Reading Nights at Lexington Elementary School on Tuesday and Thursday Evenings. Mrs. Debbie Johnson, our school librarian, does an outstanding job of providing opportunities for our students to strengthen their reading skills and develop a passion for reading for pleasure during the summer months. I encourage all parents of kindergarten through fifth grade students to bring your children by on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00-8:00pm.
