Meals On Wheels In Lexington And Giddings Needs Your Help

Soon after arriving at the house, Renee finds that Carl hasn’t had a hot meal in weeks, nor has he had a visitor. He has been all alone surviving on canned goods from his last shopping trip which took place almost fifteen days ago. Unfortunately, these scenarios are all too common within our senior community. This segment of our population is growing every day. With aging comes unique challenges; challenges that require programs and organizations to assist with needs such as health, food, and companionship.

Combined Community Action provides hot noon meals to senior citizens over 60 years of age. Meals are served at 2 congregate sites in Lee County. Those sites include Lexington that is open 1 day a week on Wednesdays at the Lexington Senior Citizen Center, and the Giddings site that provides meals 5 days a week.

They also provide “MEALS ON WHEELS” to those individuals who are homebound and are in need of a nutritious meal. The Nutrition program prepares and delivers an average of 600 meals a month in Fayette County. Over 20 volunteers assist with the program throughout the year. Unfortunately, the expenses of this program have far outpaced the donations received from local businesses and individuals, causing funds to be pulled from the total organization’s budget, to support Lee County’s nutrition program.

If your group or organization would like to participate in this campaign by sponsoring a Senior, contact Kelly Franke at 979-540- 2980 or KJFranke@CCAction.com and we will get you started. Personal donations can be sent to Combined Community Action, 165 W. Austin Street, Giddings, 78942. Please include Meals on Wheels – Lee County in the memo line.
