Bert Spence was born Dec. 11, 1921 in Milam County, Texas and was a son of Charlie I. Spence & Mary Rebecca Carlisle. He and Dorothy Ann Perry were married in Austin on Dec. 16, 1955 and to this union two children were born. Bert was employed by the Texas Highway Department in Austin as a planning engineer and retired in 1984 after thirty five years.
He had made his home in the Lexington area since 1960 where he farmed and ranched. Bert was an Air Force veteran and was a member of the American Legion in Lexington.
He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Bert passed away Friday, June 1, 2012 in the St. Davids Hospital in Georgetown having reached the age of 90. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Lexington; Son, Alan Spence & wife, Ann of Lexington; Daughter, Rebecca Spence Stroud of Lexington; Grandchildren, Jaye Simpson & Staci Retzlaff; Great Grandchildren, Spencer & Anna Simpson; Kylee & Tanner Retzlaff; Honorary Grandhildren, Tina Woodward & Justin Henderson;
Funeral services were Sunday, June 3, 2012 at 3:00 PM at the Lexington United Methodist Church with burial following in the Early Chapel Cemetery.
