Outdoor News

By Victor Gonzales, Lee County Game Warden

This past weekend I was assigned to Lake Bastrop to fill in for the local warden. Winds were pretty steady Saturday and Sunday with minimum boating traffic. I also assisted the LCRA Ranger with a boating assist on the Colorado River at the FM 969 bridge crossing.

At the lake, several citations were written for expired trailer plates and failure to display trailer plates. While every story was different as to why the plates were incorrect, the plates should have been corrected prior to operating on the public roadway.

I’m currently investigating a criminal mischief case involving the destruction of deer feeders in the Dime Box area. The act was flagrant in nature because each was shot multiple times. Also, the feeders have been in place for some time now indicating a person or persons are hunting and/or poaching in the same area.

People may start seeing fawns in their yards soon; if you do, PLEASE LEAVE THEM ALONE! The doe will come back and get her baby when she’s ready. Mother Nature knows how to take care of wildlife despite people’s good intentions.
