Softball Players Honored
Kasey Smith, the Lady Eagles’ outstanding catcher, was recognized as Newcomer of the Year in District 27-AA. Courtney Robertson, Meghann Wrinkle, and Mackenzie Brown were selected to the first team. Madison Bexley was selected to the second team.
Smith caught all 30 games for the Lady Eagles this season. She committed only four errors on the season at the most demanding position on the field. Smith went to the plate 70 times, officially, with 28 hits and only five strike outs. She blasted eight doubles and a homer in her 28 hits. Her overall batting average of .400 placed her among the top hitters in Central Texas.
Robertson logged most of the pitching duties for the Lady Eagles in the 2012 season. She won 14 games while losing 11. Courtney led the team with a batting average of .524. She had 84 official at-bats. She got a hit 44 times in the 84 at-bats. Robertson had 11 doubles, six home runs, seven walks, and was hit by a pitch twice for an on base percentage of .564. Robertson led the team with 56 RBI’s and in total bases with 73.
Wrinkle played shortstop for the Lady Eagles, along with pitching in 12 games. Wrinkle, a sophomore, batted .422 to rank second on the team. In 83 official at-bats, she had 11 doubles, two triples, six homers, 14 walks, and was hit twice by a pitch. Meghann had 29 RBI’s and 67 total bases. Wrinkle’s pitching efforts earned a five win, no loss record.
Brown played centerfield for the Lady Eagles. She patrolled the outfield, keeping her inexperienced cohorts informed with each opponent at-bat. Brown batted lead-off or second all season long. She led the team in official at-bats with 88. She was second on the team in hits with 36; 34 were singles and two doubles. Brown led the team in stolen bases with 12.
Bexley was Lexington’s sole player on the second team. She batted .329 for the season with 25 hits. Six doubles, two triples, and a home run were part of the 25. She played a solid third base and stole 10 bases to rank second on the team.
