Vaughan Jensen was born near Lexington on April 23, 1924 to Thomas and Anna Jensen, one of nine children. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1941. After graduation, he went to work for Army Corp of Engineers in Galveston for eleven months prior to joining the military. Vaughan served proudly in the Army Air Corp from 1942 until 1945, at which time he moved back to Lexington to start his ranching career which covered a span of 67 years.
Vaughan was on the Lexington School Board, serving as President, and also served as Vice President of the Thorndale Grain Company.
He moved to Rockdale in 1962, and was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
Vaughan passed away on Wednesday, May 3rd, at his home in Rockdale after a lengthy illness, reaching the age of 88.
Vaughan was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ray, Oman and Arnold Jensen; sisters, Velma Going, Mildred Sanders, Fae McMurrey, Audrey Stanton and Edith Barry, and by the mother of his children, Flora Ellis.
He is survived by his son, Robert Jensen and wife Denise of Bryan, and daughters, Connie Britton and husband James of Rockdale and Betty Jensen of Rockdale; four grandchildren, Chad Britton and wife Lauren of Houston, Doug Britton of Houston, Kacie Britton of Dallas and Taylor Jensen of Bryan, along with a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Services were are Sunday, May 6th, at 2:00 PM in the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with burial following in the Forest Grove Cemetery.
