Just a Thought.......

Rev.DaveFischer Rev.DaveFischer Yes, I know, when we think of “everyday people” we may be tempted to conjure up images of the common or the ordinary, but I want to suggest to you just the opposite.

I believe that we are in desperate need of “everyday Christians”, and I guarantee you they are neither common, nor ordinary.

Everyday Christians are those rare folks who practice their faith all the time.

It does not matter who they are with, where they are, or what they are doing, their faith controls their thoughts and actions.

“Extraordinary Christians” are quite the opposite. Their faith is seen when they are in church, around the preacher, or in the presence of those on whom they need to make a good appearance.

You will recognize them quickly in this election season when the same politicians who have done us dirty are suddenly seen in church and at religious gatherings.

Unfortunately, such pretention is not limited to just politicians. Each of us has our own list of . . . what did Jesus call them . . . hypocrites.

I know, I know, I have quit entertaining and gone to preaching. Had to. Was not so long ago some one caught me up short when they said, “You don’t act much like a preacher!

I think they meant “Christian”. So I took another look in the mirror.

And I wrote this column in case you own a mirror, too.

Rev. David Fischer is interim Minister at First Christian Church in Lexington
