Sports Thoughts

by Mike Organ

I went to LaGrange Friday night to watch former Eagle softball coach Arthur Behrend’s team play a warm up game. We have been friends since he taught and coached in Lexington. His Lady Leopards defeated Liberty Hill 7- 1. That is not what I am writing about. On each line-up card he puts a “tenth” player, someone who has been important to him in his career. The “tenth” player for each game this year has been written in the upper right hand corner of the lineup card. It is marked CT. Art and Candace Thornton worked together for two years that produced very successful Lady Eagle softball. He said it is his tribute to Candace. Bennie Thornton is aware of the tribute. Behrend also informs opposing coaches and umpires of the CT.

Did the Cowboys and Texans help themselves in the NFL draft? The two teams got fairly good grades for their annual upgrading. Most teams did get a passing grade. If that is true, will they improve record-wise against the league?

The Eagles track team did not have a person advance to state. This is the first time in many moons that has happened.

The baseball team will be playing Schulenburg for the second consecutive year. Let’s hope the results are better this year.
