Brown and Mitchell to State Tennis

by Mike Organ

Mackenzie Brown Mackenzie Brown Lexington’s mixed doubles duo of Mackenzie Brown and Eriq Mitchell earned their way to the state tennis tourney this past week.

The pair were playing in the Region IV-AA meet. In their first match they defeated Van Vleck 6- 0, 6-1. In their second round match they dominated Danbury’s team in a 6-0, 6-0 smacking. These wins were on Wednesday after Brown had played softball Tuesday night.

Thursday morning Brown and Mitchell were matched against East Bernard’s mixed doubles team. East Bernard presented a little more of a problem, as they were able to post a crooked number in their loss to Lexington’s dynamic duo 6-3, 6-1.

In the regional final, Lexington was matched against Weimar. Brown and Mitchell won the first set 6-2, just as they had in previous matches. Things turned after the first set. Weimar took the second set 6-2 and the third set 6- 3 to claim the regional title. When East Bernard beat Thorndale for the alternate position to state, Brown and Mitchell were headed to Austin in their next match.

This is Brown’s second trip to the State Tennis Tourney, as she went last year with Kaelan Blok as her partner.
