Warren George Speaker
Warren was born on March 27, 1921 in Carmen, Oklahoma to George & Ellen (Fuqua) Speaker. He was baptized and confirmed on December 9, 1962 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Austin by Rev. Vernon Pecht and had been a faithful member of the Lutheran church ever since. He was united in marriage to Lorene Reuther on December 18, 1948 in Giddings, Texas by Rev. William Mueller.
He joined the the U.S. Army on December 1, 1939, serving his country for 20 years during which time he was sent to Italy, Algiers, Japan with Lorene joining him in France & Germany. He retired from the U.S. Air Force on May 31, 1960 settling in Austin, Texas. Warren went to work in Civil Service for another 20 years, retiring in January of 1984. In 2000, he and Lorene moved back to her home place in Lincoln and became members of Christ Lutheran Church in Loebau. His greatest enjoyments were traveling, camping with family and friends, and most of all, fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sistersin law, Roy & Alice Speaker and Leo & Marion Speaker; sisters & brother-in-law, Ina & Cliff Singree and Viola Edwards and parentsin law, Richard & Meta Reuther.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lorene Speaker of Lincoln; brother-in-law, Leonard Reuther & wife, Bernice of Lincoln; sister-inlaw, Bernice Beisert & husband, Ernest of Lincoln, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Christ Lutheran Church in Loebau, Texas with Rev. Paul Hartfield officiating. Burial with full military honors followed in the church cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were Randy Reuther, Richard Reuther, Frank Radtke, Steven Beisert and Jimmy Boettcher.
Memorials may be made to the Christ Lutheran Church Building Fund or the American Heart Association.
