Lady Eagles Cage Lady Cougars

by Mike Organ

Lexington beat Jarrell 10—7 Tuesday night. Courtney Robertson was the winning pitcher and also blasted her sixth homer of the year.

Lexington struck early as they scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Meghann Wrinkle led off with a walk. Mackenzie Brown reached on a fielder’s choice, as the Lady Cats tried to get Wrinkle at second base. Robertson singled both runners home for a 2-0 lead. Jorden Kelley, running for Robertson, scored on a sacrifice fly by Bailey Reynolds.

Three more runs came in the second. Chelsea Nadeau walked and Rachael Beard sacrificed her to second. Brown singled and Robertson blasted her three-run homer.

Jarrell scored three in the third to close to 6-4. Another run for Jarrell in the fourth made the score 6-5 Lexington.

Lexington added three more in the fifth without the aid of a hit. Robertson walked to lead off, as did the next batter, Kasey Smith. Madison Bexley hit a grounder to the second baseman. She tried to get Kelley at third to no avail. A passed ball allowed Kelley to score. The other two runs scored as Nadeau hit a grounder to second base that was mishandled.

Bexley scored the last Lexington run in the top of the seventh. She walked, stole second and third. She then scored on a wild pitch, as the Lady Eagles scored again without the aid of a hit.

Jarrell added two more runs to their total in the bottom of the seventh.
