Just a Thought.......

Consider the Lilies of the Field

Rev.DaveFischer Rev.DaveFischer One of the joys of making the trip from San Antonio to Lexington each week this Spring are the wild flowers along the way. As you know, they are beautiful this year, and abundant.

They are also a powerful lesson for us who have become so used to having things our way.

Wildflowers can be picked, but they will not survive long out of their native setting. And, as any “picker” will tell you, their beauty quickly fades outside their natural residence.

Those realities mean that if we are to enjoy them, we must stop. Literally. We have to get out of our beloved cars, maybe even go out of our way. The flowers will not accomodate us. We must adjust to their demands for full consideration.

When we do, we wonder once more, what else are we missing of the beauty and wonder of life by hurtling through existence, walled off from the world?

Maybe not just flowers. Perhaps, people are also being overlooked. Beautiful, wonderful folks in their natural setting, wherever that may be.

Makes me think of these words from Jesus. “Are your hearts hardened? Having eyes, do you not see . . . “

He did not speak those syllables first to us. But, He might have. Or, He might have been too focused on the beauty of God’s world to stop for one more sermon to folks who cannot hear, let alone see.

It’s just a thought . . . .
