Superintendent’s Corner

Frances M. McArthur, Ph.D.
Superintendent of Schools Lexington Independent School District

Our students did an excellent job of displaying good sportsmanship at our District Track Meet this week. At the time of this writing we do not have the final results, but so far our students have done very well:-) I am looking forward to recognizing the hard work of our student track athletes in next week’s column. I want to congratulate our coaches for all their hard work in organizing the meet. I have been told often that other schools in our district want to come to Lexington for the District Track Meet, even though we only have a seven lane track compared to others in our district that have eight lane tracks. The reason for their willingness to travel to Lexington is that our coaches do a fine job of planning the District Meet and making sure all athletes, parents and community members have a good experience.

Next month, many of our staff members will be exercising along with our students on May 5th during the Lexington Rotary 5K Fun Run. I am proud of our staff members’ desire to model healthy living through exercise for our students as they help the Lexington Rotary raise money for scholarships. It will be a wonderful Homecoming Weekend. I can’t wait!
