Just a Thought.......

Rev.DaveFischer Rev.DaveFischer Several years ago, my wife thought that she heard birds fighting just outside our front door. When she went to investigate, she was half right. There were winged ones above the jam, but they weren’t involved in war, they were nest building. Two lovely purple martins had chosen us.

Since that time, they have returned faithfully each season even after the bad year.

The negative anniversary occurred the year that neighborhood cats killed two of the young ones who had fallen from the nest before they learned to fly.

“That’s it,” she declared. “I can’t stand to see their lifeless bodies.

Tear down the nest!”

Ever the faithful husband, I followed her instructions, grieving their loss even as I scrubbed the mud from existence. Fortunately, the martins knew nature’s rules better than we did. Some will die, but not all, and even two are enough to begin again. And so they started over, building their nest from the wall upward, taller than before, strong enough to protect their loved ones and my beloved’s heart.

Since that time, they have become my Springtime. And, a precious reminder that the chaos and confusion of the city are not the final word.

The last word belongs to the one who spoke the first one. The one who makes ALL things NEW.
