On Friday, March 30 our district held firearms training, inspection and qualification for pistol and rifle at the J-B ranch in Gonzales County. For lunch, I fried 25 pounds of fish for district members and 4 retired game wardens.
Saturday, March 31 was a good day to be on the lake; lots of people and lots of fun! Things continue to look good for Lake Somerville. Most campgrounds surrounding the lake are full, and Easter weekend should be the busiest in a long time.
Citations were issued for water safety violations such as not having enough life jackets for everyone on board, invalid registration, no registration cards, no type IV throwable device (ring buoy or seat cushion) and no sound producing device. While these items may seem trivial, I can assure you once someone breaks down at night or needs to hail someone to stop, these items can save time and perhaps a life. Safety equipment can be purchased at any sporting goods store, including Wal-Mart, Academy, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Cabela’s, Bass Pro Shop or Gander Mountain.
