Melvin Ray Iselt

January 20, 1951 - March 21, 2012

Melvin Ray Iselt was born on January 20, 1951 in Giddings, Texas to Paul & Natalie (Sander) Iselt. He was baptized on February 11, 1951 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln by Rev. Henry Stroebel and confirmed on April 11, 1965 also at St. John Lutheran Church by Rev. Carl Biar. His confirmation verse was 1Timothy 1:15, “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” Melvin attended school at St. John Lutheran School in Lincoln and graduated from Giddings High School in 1969. He was united in marriage to Terry Gunter on January 22, 1972 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. Fred Mgebroff. They had three children, Paul, Kelly & Missy. Melvin was a sheet rocker who worked in construction most of his life. He enjoyed fishing and polka music and was an Astros fan. One of his greatest loves was being “pawpaw” to his grandchildren and spending time with them.

Melvin passed away the evening of Wednesday, March 21, 2012, surrounded by his family, at the College Station Medical Center after succumbing to injuries he suffered from an automobile accident on September 23, 2011, reaching the age of 61 years, 2 months and 1 day.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul & Natalie Iselt; son-in-law, Billy Drews; brother, Elmo Iselt; sister & brother-in-law, Gladys & Richard Koslan; sisterin law, Irene Iselt; parents-in-law, Benjamin & Betty Gunter, Sr. and a brother-in-law, Benjamin Gunter, Jr.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Terry Iselt of Ledbetter; his three children, Paul Iselt of Giddings, Kelly & Angie Iselt of Giddings and Melissa Drews and Sam Adams of Cypress; seven grandchildren, Blyss Iselt, Haley Southerland and Raylynn Southerland all of New Mexico, Kieler Iselt of Somerville, Kaleb Iselt of Giddings and Brandon Drews & Aiden Adams both of Cypress; two brothers, Freddy & Sydonia Iselt of Houston and Wilbert Iselt of Paige; six sistersin law, Caroline Joyce Iselt of Lexington, Patsy & Cecil Buscha of Lincoln, Johnnie & Dwayne Reynolds of Caldwell, Barbara & Gene Coker of Livingston, Susie & Gary Wrinkle of Orange Grove and Gloria Gunter of Ledbetter; three brothers-in-law, Bill Gunter of Ledbetter, Joe Gunter of Ledbetter and Travis & Lynn Gunter of Giddings, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Texas with Rev. Dale Bohm officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Mike Beisert, Ronnie Beisert, Jeremy Haas, Cotton Medack, Sam Adams, Keith Iselt, Gary Iselt and Darrell Iselt.
