Reba Mae Otte


Reba Mae Otte entered eternal rest on Friday, March 16, 2012 at the age of 85 years. Reba was born on December 26, 1926 in Houston, Texas to Otto Carl and Maggie (Janisch) Riedel. Reba attended and graduated as Valedictorian of Addicks High School in 1944. Upon graduating from high school, Reba went to work for Moncrief-Lenoir Manufacturing as a bookkeeper. She lived on the Riedel family dairy for 28 years where she learned how to care for dairy cattle and milk the cows each morning before school. She married Raimond A. Otte in August 1954, where they moved to the Otte family farm in Addicks, Texas after their marriage. Reba left one family farm and started her own family business with her husband, Otte Egg Farm in the Addicks area on Clay Road. She and her husband operated the Otte Egg Farm for 20 years. Reba continued the family business after Raimond’s death in 1973. Reba and the children moved to Lexington, Texas in the summer of 1974 where she then became a cattle rancher and was still one as of her death.

Reba was a member of the Addicks United Methodist Church in Addicks, Texas for 20 years where she served her church as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Reba joined the Lexington United Methodist Church in 1974 where she was still a member until her death. Reba was active in the VFW Post Ladies Auxiliary in Addicks and moved her membership to the VFW Post 8905 in Cypress, Texas. Reba was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Raimond, two sisters and their spouses’Alminta and Bill Groschke and Margaret and Ellis G. Watson, and son-in-law, Joe T. French.

She is survived by daughter, Rebecca French of Lexington; sons, Timothy Otte and wife Ann of Lexington, Jerry Otte and wife Pam of Lexington; granddaughter, Joan Marie French of College Station; grandsons, Raimond T. French, Taylor Otte, Tyler Otte, Jonathan Otte and Jacob Otte, all of Lexington; Step-grandson, John T. French and wife Kari; stepgreat grandchildren, Jacob and Jeffrey French, all of Huntsville, Texas. She is also survived by various nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services for Reba were held on Monday, March 19, 2012 at the Lexington United Methodist Church. Interment followed at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston, with Rev. Lance Richards officiating.

Pallbearers were David Groschke, Mark Groschke, Raimond French, Taylor Otte, Jonathan Otte, Damon Burlin and Randy Sherrill.

In lieu of floral tributes, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to Lexington United Methodist Church building fund, PO Box 116, Lexington, Texas 78947.
