Lady Eagles Vanquish Lady Vikings

by Mike Organ

Lexington remained undefeated at 3-0 in district play with a decisive 17-0, four inning defeat of Lago Vista Monday afternoon. Courtney Robertson, Meghann Wrinkle, and Bailey Reynolds combined to throw a no-hitter, keeping the Lady Vikes off the score board. The game highlight was freshman Reynolds driving a ball over the fence for a grand slam in her very first varsity start.

The first five Lexington batters that went to the plate scored. Mackenzie Brown was hit by a pitch, Reynolds walked, Wrinkle was hit, Robertson drove home two with a single, Kasey Smith walked, Kassie Prew reached on an error, Kaylie Sherman singled, and Mariah Thornton singled to drive in a run. Brown walked with the bases full to force in another run, as did Reynolds. When the dust cleared, eight Lexington batters had crossed home in the first inning.

In the second inning Madison Bexley reached on a fielder’s choice, Prew singled, and Sherman walked to load the bases. Brown singled home Bexley to set the stage for Reynolds. The Freshman drove the ball over the outfield fence for a grand slam! This was Reynolds’ first high school homer. (What a memory!!!) The Eagle lead was 13-0.

The third inning was a letdown as Lexington only scored once. Smith was hit by a pitch, stole second, moved to third on Prew’s ground out, and scored on a passed ball.

The fourth inning produced the mercy rule. Brown singled to lead off, Reynolds sacrificed her to second, and Wrinkle doubled her home. Robertson followed with a home run to top off the Lexington scoring at 17.
