Stat Air Takes Local Woman to Brackenridge

Pamela Hammett, formerly of Lexington and currently living in Rockdale, was taken by PHI Stat Air from Bastrop following a single car accident that happened in the early hours of Sunday morning, March 18.

DPS Trooper Ordie Manner was dispatched to Lexington on Highway 77 at Shady Circle Sunday morning at about 1:45 a.m. His report indicates that Hammett was driving a 2008 Infiniti EX35 southbound on Hwy. 77 in the outside lane. She apparently fell asleep behind the wheel while traveling through a left curve in the roadway, when she exited the right side of the highway. She traveled through the bar ditch and across Shady Circle, continuing through the ditch until she struck a tree headon on the driver’s side of the vehicle before coming to a stop.

Members of Lexington’s Volunteer Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to help remove Hammett from the vehicle. Stat Air arrived on the scene at 2:32 a.m. and took her by helicopter to the major trauma center at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin.

Mike Organ, LVFD volunteer said, “Fortunately, her vehicle was equipped with the latest air bag technology, which probably helped to save her life.”
