by Carolyn Jackson

Ladies from Lexington, Giddings, and Dime Box recently gathered to create artfully decorated bras to promote breast cancer awareness. They will be submitting their original wearable bras to the Creative Cups for the Cause Art Bra Contest being held by Lee County Area Cancer Resource Center. The bras will be featured in the upcoming 2013 Creative Cups for the Cause calendar. They will also be on display at the The 6th Annual Pink Ribbon Affair breast cancer awareness fundraiser in Giddings on October 9, 2012. Pictured are Gloria Brockenbush, Paulette Schulze, Dorothy Rackel, Nancy Organ, Cathy Lancaster and Lisa Gres.

Has the beautiful spring weather ignited a creative spark in you and you are looking for a way to express yourself? How about creating an original art bra or work of art for the Creative Cups for the Cause Art Bra Contest? The art bra contest will be conducted as part of The 6th Annual Pink Ribbon Affair, a breast cancer awareness fundraiser, to be held in Giddings to benefit Lee County

Area Cancer Resource Center

( LCACRC). This is an opportunity for both artists and community members to contribute to a great cause and a great event. Create a themed work of art honoring a woman’s spirit and courage in any medium such as: wood, metal, glass, sculpture, quilts, decorated T- shirts, originally designed jewelry, original photography, a painting on canvas, or creative use of everyday items. Or, you may use creativity in embellishing an actual, wearable bra. Entries must include a title for the piece of artwork and must be accompanied by an entry form.

Entry forms may be obtained and the art bra entry submitted to either All Around the Block Quilt Shop, 979 N. Leon St. in Giddings or Lee County Area Cancer Resource Center, 165 W. Austin St. in Giddings. The deadline for entries to be submitted to the Creative Cups for the Cause art bra contest will be June 5th, 2012. Prizes will be awarded on the evening of October9, 2012, at The Pink Ribbon Affair. The entries become a donation to LCACRC and will be used in various ways to benefit LCACRC in its mission to inform, educate, and support citizens in relation to cancer and survivorship within this rural area. For questions concerning the art bra entries call 979-540-2981.
