Just a Thought.......

Rev.DaveFischer Rev.DaveFischer Sometimes it helps to know “the rest of the story” as Paul Harvey used to say.

This tale is about two matching trees which stand close together in the backyard of my adopted Rock House.

I have often looked at them with a double admiration; one, for their intrinsic beauty, and two, for the foresight of the one who planted them.

Before I learned better, I assumed that someone was just interested in some backyard shade. Now, I know, they are more than that.

The twins are remnants of a larger gift. My sources say that originally there were nine trees, one for each of the children on the place.

Imagine the joy! “I have my own tree and it is named after me.” Think of the other-oriented faith shown. “I will plant a tree under whose shade I may never sit, but someone whom I love will.”

Chocolates and flowers cannot compete with such a token of love, nor can they speak so eloquently of eternity.

Maybe that was the point. A child will grow to maturity knowing there are bigger, and greater, things than them; yet, these larger entities bless their life.

I wish I could preach like that.
