Lady Eagles Suffer @ Taylor Tourney

The Lady Eagles went to the Taylor Softball Tourney sporting an 11- 1 record and feeling invincible. That stopped in Taylor against some quality opponents. The Lady Eagles lost four games and won only one in the three day tourney. Lexington lost to Waco High, Copperas Cove, Del Valle, and Killeen Ellison in the tourney, and defeated Groesbeck.

Waco 6 Lexington 3

The Lady Eagles were leading 3-0 going into the last inning against Waco when the roof fell in defensively. Five errors and two Waco hits produced six runs in the last inning to give the Lions a 6-3 win. Kasey Smith’s double and singles by Courtney Robertson, Mackenzie Brown, and Meghann Wrinkle produced the Lady Eagles three runs.

Groesbeck 1

Lexington parlayed a single, three hit batters, and four Lady Goat errors into three runs. Rachael Beard reached on an error, advanced to third on passed balls, and scored on Brown’s single. Cassie Prew was hit by a pitch to move Brown to second. The right fielder dropped Meghann Wrinkle’s fly ball as Brown scored and Prew went to third. Robertson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Smith was hit, forcing in the third Lexington run.

Lexington once again let errors dictate the outcome of the game. Leading 3-2 going into the last inning, Lexington committed two errors with two outs that allowed the winning runs to score. Lexington had posted three runs. The first run came on a single by Brown and Wrinkle’s RBI double. The next two runs came on two Cove errors and a double by Robertson.

Del Valle 5
Lexington 3

Lexington improved their fielding, making only one error, but still lost to 4A Del Valle 5-3. Lexington took the lead with three runs in the second inning. Kaylie Sherman led off with a single. A walk to Mariah Thornton put runners on first and second. Brown’s slapper loaded the bases. Wrinkle hit to deep short and scored a run. Robertson drove one up the middle as two runs scored. Del Valle scored two earned runs the third and two more in the fifth to win the game. This was the first round of bracket play.

Killeen Ellison 6
Lexington 2

Meghann Wrinkle tripled and Courtney Robertson singled her home in the top of the first. Ellison did the rest as they moved ahead 4-1 before Lexington scored in the top of the fourth on walks to Kasey Smith and Madison Bexley, followed by Mariah Thornton’s grounder that was mishandled, allowing Smith to score. The Lady Eagle defense improved some in this game.
