Lexington’s Lady Eagles Top Rosebud-Lott

by Mike Organ

Lexington got the 2012 softball season off to a good start Tuesday night with an 8-5 win over the Rosebud- Lott Lady Cougars. Courtney Robertson hit a massive home run and pitched a one-hitter in the victory.

Mackenzie Brown led off the 2012 batting season with a walk. Brown stole second and scored on Rachael Beard’s single. Robertson was hit by a pitch with two out. Kasey Smith doubled home courtesy runner, Jorden Kelley. Madison Bexley singled to plate Smith. Tayllor Lagrone singled to put runners at first and second, but the Eagles could not get any more runs.

Rosebud- Lott scored two unearned runs in the top of the second, one an LHS error, and a passed ball. The error was one of eight Lexington miscues on the night.

Meghann Wrinkle led off the Lexington third by reaching on a dropped third strike. Robertson then took a 2-1 pitch and golfed it deep over the left field fence for two more runs and a 5-2 lead.

That remained the score until the RL fifth inning. The Lady Eagles’ fielding took a sabbatical. Four of Lexington’s errors occurred in the inning as the Lady Cougars scored three times to tie the score.

Lexington answered in the bottom half of the inning. Kasey Smith got her second double of the game with two out. Madison Bexley singled and stole second to put runners at second and third. Bailey Reynolds hit a roller to second base that was mishandled, allowing two runs to score.

Wrinkle then hit a fly ball that eluded capture and rolled to the fence for an inside-the-park home run for the final run of the game in the sixth.

Robertson only allowed one hit, but combined with the eight errors, RL was able to score five runs.
