Fast and Furious Pace in the Final JV Game of the Season

For the last time this year, the Lexington Eagle JV Boys Basketball team took to the court to take on the Buffaloes of Florence in Florence on Tuesday, February 14th. The ball was tossed and Florence started the scoringwitha2pointbucket. Lexington’s #22 Nate Holcomb answeredwitha3pointshotand the game was 3-2 Lexington. #11 Jamyon Scott matched Holcomb’s 3 with his own 3, before Florence started scoring again. #24 Marcus Cassassa added a free throw and #32 Cameron Janda got 2 off of a put back to give Lexington 9 points at the end of the first.

Florence matched Lexington’s 9, but, with seconds left in the first, the Buffaloes bombed a nice 3 pointer to take the end of the first period lead with a 12-9 score.

In the second period, Lexington held Florence to just 4 points while adding 7 of their own. Lexington’s #12 Corey Strain added 2 free throws and #33 Walt Greenhita3andthenanother2 to send the teams to half time with a tied score of 16-16.

With the start of the third period, the Florence JV hit the court energized, scoring twice, quickly, and putting pressure on Lexington. Scott was able to hit another 3 point shot for the only score of the third for Lexington, while Florence went on to pin 6 more points, taking the lead at the end of the third 26-19.

The fourth period was full of excitement. Strain started the scoring with a free throw. Florence answered with 2 before Lexington’s #20 Cash Flott put 2 up off of a rebound. Florence hit again, then Holcomb banked a nice long 3 pointer. #11 Jamyon Scott tallied another 3 pointer and, with 59 seconds left in the game, Lexington had closed the gap, but still trailed 30-28.

Florence was sent to the line and made 2 free throws before Scott was sent to the line and made his two free throws. 32-30 Florence with 24 seconds left. Florence inbounded the ball and was immediately fouled by Strain. Both of Florence’s shots were missed and Lexington got the rebound. A Florence time out and Lexington went to inbound at mid-court. Florence grabbed the ball on a bad pass and # 32 Cameron Janda fouled the ball handler. Both of the Florence free throws were missed and Lexington got the rebound with 18 seconds left.

With 9 seconds left, the ball went out of bounds under the Lexington goal. Lexington’s ball. Florence called a time out. Strain inbounded to Scott who dished to Holcomb who shot and ... Florence rebounded to end the game and win the contest 32-30.

Scoring for the JV Eagles were: 1 by #24 Marcus Cassassa: 2 each by # 20 Cash Flott and # 32 Cameron Janda; 3 by #12 Corey Strain; 5 by #33 Walt Green; 6 by #22 Nate Holcomb and 11 by #11 Jamyon Scott.
