Kyle Jefferson Spence

Jan. 2, 1927 - February 13, 2012

Funeral services for Kyle Spence, 85 of Giddings, are scheduled for 2: 00 p. m. on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings, with Rev. Keith Aschenbeck and Rev. Robert Tiner officiating. Burial will follow in the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday, February 16, 2012 from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Mr. Spence passed away unexpectedly the morning of Monday, February 13, 2012 at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange.

Kyle Jefferson Spence was born on January 2, 1927 in Forest Grove, Texas to Henry C. & Carrie (Kyle) Spence. He was baptized in 1940 as a member of the Forest Grove Christian Church by H.E. Crone.

Kyle attended school in Tanglewood and Rockdale where he played basketball. He graduated from Rockdale High School in 1945.

He was united in marriage to Marilyn Sanders on November 26, 1953 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. Max Studtmann. He later publicly confessed his faith, received in baptism, in the Rite of Confirmation on November 23, 1973 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Emil Krugler.

Kyle began working in line construction with the LCRA and retired as a plant operator. Following his retirement, he worked for Bluebonnet Electric in Giddings for several years as a dispatcher.

He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he had served as a checker and volunteered as a member of the Caring Ministry. Kyle was also a longtime member of the Lee County Sheriff ’s Posse and enjoyed attending the Giddings Rotary Club’s Country Music Monday performances.

He enjoyed taking care of his farm and cattle and traveling with his family. Kyle was known for making and sharing his homemade peanut brittle.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marilyn Spence, his sister, Ruby Ellen Brown, and his brother- in- law, Henry A. Sanders.

Kyle is survived by his sister, Roxie Ann & SiLee Bingham of Austin; two brothers, Claude & Lanell Spence and Rodney & Lu Spence all of Forest Grove, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Caring Ministry at Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Forest Grove Christian Church or the charity of one’s choice.
