Jr. Varsity Lady Eagles Clawed by the Cougars
The first period ended with Jarrell on top by a score of 11-2. The lone bucket for the Eagles was scored by #25 Mariah Thornton. The second period saw Lexington add 4 more points, a basket from # 35 Bliss Brewer and 2 free throws from #11 Bailey Reynolds. Jarrell inked up 9 more points to make the half time score 20-6 Jarrell.
The third period saw some good passes from the Eagles. Reynolds was able to score the first 3 points for Lexington with a free throw and a basket. #13 Tyisha Page took a Reynolds pass and popped it in for 2. With 54 seconds left in the third, #45 Kaitlyn Billings bombed a nice three pointer, and a buzzer-beating shot by #15 Maegan Sanders added 2 more. Lexington had 18 points at the end of the third, but it was no match for the Cougars’ 31.
The final period had both teams scoring 6 points. Sanders had a free throw and a bucket. Page had a nice inbound bucket and then Sanders added 1 more free throw to finish the scoring for the night. The final score was 37-24 Jarrell.
As a side note, one of those rare basketball things happened in the fourth period that you would never expect. Lexington’s #13 Tyisha Page made a nice shot at the basket. The ball hit the back of the rim, bounced up and settled perfectly back down between the basket and the glass backboard. Everyone looked around not quite sure what to do, when out ran the tallest Jarrell Boys’ JV player, who had no problem clearing the rim and knocking the ball back down to thunderous applause in the gym.
