John Alvin Schmidt
John Alvin Schmidt was born on June 30, 1929 in Serbin, Texas to Bernhardt & Emma ( Jurk) Schmidt. He was baptized on July 7, 1929 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin by Rev. Herman Schmidt and confirmed by Rev. Herman Schmidt on April 18, 1943 also at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin. John was united in marriage to Anna Schulze on November 8, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor, Texas by Rev. Theodore Schmidt. John was a retired carpenter and had volunteered with the Lutheran Braille Center for over 20 years. He enjoyed woodworking, refinishing furniture and playing dominoes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anna Schmidt; sisters, Erna Mersiovsky, Alice Schmidt, Ruth Lehmann and Clara Schmidt and brothers, Rudolph Schmidt, Theodore Schmidt, Carl Schmidt and Martin Schmidt.
John is survived by his son, James & Brandy Schmidt of Dayton; daughter, Nancy Schmidt of Austin; four grandchildren, Taylor Diaz, Sidney Diaz, Adriana Diaz and Alen Diaz all of Dayton; great grandson, Lieum Aungiano of Dayton; sister, Renata Mersiovsky of Temple; brother, Edwin & Gertrude Schmidt Sr. of Northrup; sister-in-law, Gertrude Schmidt of College Station, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, Texas with Rev. John Schmidt officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Edwin Schmidt Jr., Kenny Mersiovsky, Dwayne Schulze, David Schmidt, Jack Montgomery and Alen Diaz.
