Ten People in Three Car Pileup

Ten people were involved in a three car pileup in Lexington last Saturday night. At 7:15 p.m., Richard Nation, 48, formerly of Bastrop, was driving southbound on Highway 77 near the intersection of North Street in Lexington just as Janice Wiley, 57 of Austin, was stopped at the stop sign on North Street at Highway 77. According to the police report, a driver from Lexington, entered Highway 77 from a private drive directly across from North Street without yielding the right of way to traffic on the highway. As Nation observed the vehicle entering the roadway, he attempted to avoid a collision with him; however, Nation struck the right front and rear quarter panels of the car, and the left front quarter panel of Wiley’s car. The impact pushed Wiley’s car into the stop sign on North Avenue, damaging the right front door.

Wiley had two passengers with her in her 2001 GMC Jimmy. Nation had four passengers with him in his 2009 Chevrolet Suburban and there was one passenger, along with the driver of the 2003 Toyota 4Runner. According to Lexington Police Officer Scott Gaskamp, no one was injured in the accident. Lee County Deputy Skinner assisted in the accident.

The Lexington driver was issued a citation for failure to yield.
