Third Annual Lexington Lone Star Varmint Tournament 2012
The Third Annual Lexington Lone Star Varmint Tournament in Lexington, Texas, hosted by Nocks Bow Repair, was a great success. We had one hundred seventeen teams sign up on Saturday, January 29th. This year we paid out places First through Fifth. The first place winners, Long Range of Taylor, Texas, won $4,680 with 4 bobcats, 1 fox, and 5 coyotes, for a total of 340 points. The second place winners, 3C Yote Busters of Gorman, Texas, won $2,340, with 2 bobcats, 5 fox, and 2 coyotes, for a total of 315 points. The third place winners, Beer Belly Varmint Hunters of Brookesmith/Gustine, Texas, won $1,755, with 1 bobcat, 3 fox, 5 coyotes, 4 raccoons, for a total of 295 points. The fourth place winners, Team Weaver of Hamilton/Austin, Texas, won $1,170, with 1 bobcat, 5 fox, 2 coyotes, and 1 raccoon, for a total of 275 points. The fifth place winners, Nuts & Furs of Lee County/Houston area, Texas, won $585, with 1 bobcat, 5 fox, 2 coyotes, and 1 raccoon, for a total of 275 points.
We had four side pots. Team Cooper of Smithville, Texas won $ 490 in the Heaviest Bobcat category, with a weight of 22.4 lbs. Team Lehmann Ranch of Ledbetter/Lexington/Paige, Texas won $ 515 in the Heaviest Coyote category with a weight of 45.4 lbs. Team Weaver also won $465 in the Heaviest Fox category with a weight of 10.2 lbs. Team Beer Belly Varmint Hunters also won $490 in the Mangiest Coyote category. The Mangiest Coyote category was decided by the judges.
This year we were able to give away three guns and some smaller prizes. We gave the youth hunters ( 15 years old and younger) skinning knives and LED flashlights for participating, to help motivate the youth to keep hunting.
