UIL Realignment Thursday

by Mike Organ

The UIL will make public, this Thursday, its bi- annual realignment. The UIL redistricts and classifies every two years. Teams will be placed into districts for UIL competitions, not only in athletics, but in literary and speaking competitions also.

You can read almost anything, as various people try to out guess the UIL. One reclassification writer put Johnson City in the district with Lexington. Another had Thorndale going back to Class A, and Franklin moving up to 2ADivision I. The two schools would be replaced with Marlin and Hearne. Or it could be as ridiculous as what happened four years ago when Lexington got to travel to Onalaska, Trinity, and New Waverly.

Thorndale is counting on going back to Class A. The Thorndale Superintendent wrote as much in an article in the Thorndale newspaper. He quoted a figure of 193 as their enrollment figure. Rumors have it that Refugio turned in only 205, which could place them into Class A.

The only way to be sure is to get up Thursday morning, log onto the UIL website, and wait for the official word.
