Lee County Teams Win Championships
The 2012 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Area Go Texan Contests were held this past weekend at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy. Teams from Lee County represented very well and came back with two Championships again this year. The Washer team of Glen Albrecht and Kyle Kasper repeated their Championship from last year and had very little problem defending their title against 84 other teams. Charlie Malke and Donald Menzel brought home their Championship in Dominos against 51 other Area Go Texan teams. Both of these teams won a beautiful custom Gist belt buckle engraved with “Grand Champion” and their respective events. The Senior Team Penning team of Earl Schulz, Eric Pillack, Michael Griffith and alternate Randy Schulz competed well in their event and placed 8th overall. The team penners won a beautiful trophy in the shape of the Houston Rodeo’s “ Howdy” mascot. Michael Griffith also placed in the Top 10 in Sorting on Friday evening. The Junior Team Penners - Zach Rother, Whitney Pillack, Lane Turner and alternate Megan Rother did well but did not make the finals in their event. The Horseshoe team of Walter & Bryan Gersch made it to the third round but was unable to advance further. The Lee County Go Texan committee would like to express our thanks to all the teams and their family members and friends for participating and representing the county this year. There were many comments made by others at the event how well Lee County did this year.
