Academy Marches by Lady Eagles

by Mike Organ

Lexington’s Lady Eagles played a great first quarter at Academy, scoring 11 points. The great start has become a Lady Eagle trademark. They play well for the first quarter or so, and then fall back. They had a couple of baskets by Mackenzie Brown and Christen Schneider, a drive to the basket by Brown, and a rebound put back by Schneider, plus a free throw.

Case in point, after the 11-point effort in the first quarter, they only scored four in the second quarter, as Academy scored 15, to take an 11- point lead at the half. Lexington never quite recovered.

The Lady Eagle doldrums continued in the third quarter as they scored only one point, and that was after the quarter was over. Kasey Smith was fouled as the end of quarter buzzer went off. She made one of two free throws for Lexington’s only point of the quarter.

Lexington rallied in the fourth period, as they again scored 11 points. The Lady Eagles got within five points midway through the period. Academy started using their height advantage to score inside. The Lady Eagles won the fourth quarter with an 11-9 edge. The second and third quarters had done their damage. Christen Schneider led the Lady Eagles in scoring with nine points. Brown had eight to compliment.
