Lexington’s Lady Eagles Fail Thorndale Test

by Mike Organ

Thorndale defeated Lexington 54-39 Tuesday night in Thorndale. The two teams battled evenly in the first quarter. The unusually tall Lady Dogs could not handle the pressure the Little Lady Eagles put on them.

Mackenzie Brown fueled the fast opening as she made a couple of driving lay ups and a threepoint shot. Kristin Boettcher made a deuce to make Lexington’s first quarter total nine compared to Thorndale’s 11.

Boettcher opened the second quarter scoring with a field goal to tie the game at 11. Unfortunately, Lexington would not score again until the score was 22-11. Brown dropped a three to close to 22-14. Another Maroon field goal made the score 24-14 at half.

Thorndale continued to score, adding 15 to their total in each of the next two quarters. Lexington hustled and fought their way to 10 points in the third period and 15 in the fourth.

Brown led the Lady Eagles in scoring and bruises with 18 points. Boettcher had a breakout night with 12 points, as she moved inside to play aggressively against the Lady Dogs.
