Lexington JV Beats Rogers in OT
The Rogers Eagles came to town Friday, January 13, to take on the Lexington Eagles. The JV boys tipped off in the old gym and Lexington found themselves working against a full court press. In the first period, Lexington’s #11 Jamyon Scott was sent to the foul line 3 times, making 4 of the 6. #22 Nate Holcomb had a trip to the foul line and #32 London Jacob had a nice 2 point layup. With seconds left in the first, Rogershada2pointleadbut added to the total with a buzzerbeating 3 point bomb. At the end of the first it was 11-6 Rogers.
The second period started with Holcomb hitting a nice 3 pointer. Lexington’s #24 Marcus Cassassa added 2 to the total before Rogers started scoring and rattled off 8 in a row. #33 Walt Green came in and popped up for 2. That shot was followed by 2 from #42 Derek Dane. The half ended with Rogers in the lead 21-15.
In the third period, Lexington began a rally and added 9 points, while Rogers was limited to 5. The third period ended 26-24 Rogers. In the third period, #42 Derek Dane went up high to snag a pass but came down hard landing on his right side. He came out of the game and later went to have his elbow radiographed in College Station. Derek will be out for the season with an elbow fracture.
The fourth period saw Rogers quickly add 5 more points to stand at 31. Lexington kept chipping away with free throws from Strain and Cassassa. A 2 point bucket byJacob,thena3pointbombby Jacob, put the score at 31-31 with 30 seconds left in the game. With 5 seconds left in the game, tied 31- 31, #22 Nate Holcomb got shoved out of bounds and turned around to make a comment. The comment got Nate a technical and sent Rogers to the line to shoot 2 baskets with 5 seconds left for the win. Rogers missed the first one….missed the second one and thegamewentintoa2minuteover time.
Rogers won the tip off but couldn’t score. Lexington took the ball down and Holcomb shot from 3 point land and missed. #32 Jacob was there to get the rebound and put it back up for 2. Lexington went ahead 33-31. Neither team was able to score again and Lexington won the game 33-31.
