Eagle JV Clawed by the Cougars

Corey Strain drives the ball. Corey Strain drives the ball. The Jarrell Cougars traveled to Lexington Friday night, January 6, 2012. The JV boys tipped off in the old gym with Jarrell winning the tip off, winning the first basket and eventually winning the game.

Lexington’s #32 London Jacob was the first Eagle to score, but the team allowed the Cougars to run out to a 10-2 lead early on. #12 Corey Strain was able to add a single free throw, while Jacob had another 2, on a follow up, to end the scoring for Lexington in the first period trailing Jarrell 5- 15.

In the second period Jacob was able to hit a bucket and a free throw, while #11 Jamyon Scott added two free throws. The half ended with Lexington trailing 10- 28.

In the second half of the game, Lexington began to answer Jarrell’s constant motion with good passes and aggressive rebounding. In the third Lexington outscored Jarrell 15-12, but still trailed by a score of 25- 40. Scoring for Lexington in the third were Jacob with 6, Scott with two free throws, a free throw by Strain, and two 3 point bombs by #22 Nate Holcomb.

In the fourth period, Lexington doubled up Jarrell’s fourth period scoring, but still fell short when an 11 point run by the Eagles at the end left the final score 46-37 Jarrell. In the fourth, #33 Walt Green hit two 3s, #24 Marcus Cassassa had 2, Scott had 2 more and #42 Derek Dane had 2.

Scoring totals for the JV Eagles were: 2 each by #12 Corey Strain, #24 Marcus Cassassa and #42 Derek Dane, 6 each by # 11 Jamyon Scott, #22 Nate Holcomb and #33 Walt Green and 13 points by #32 London Jacob.
