Eagles on All Centex Team

Will Holcomb, Kogan Garrett, Josh Murray, and Jason Washington selected
by Mike Organ

Will Holcomb Will Holcomb The Austin American- Statesman released its All-Central Texas Football team in the Saturday, December 24th issue. Four Lexington Eagles were given second and third team honors.

Will Holcomb, Lexington’s steady senior center, was chosen to the second team offensive line. Josh Murray was picked as a defensive back on the second team. Kogan Garrett was chosen as quarterback on the third team. Jason Washington was picked as a receiver on the third team. Holcomb and Murray are seniors and the other two are juniors.

Holcomb moved from guard/ tackle last season to center this season. He performed almost perfectly with the long snaps to the quarterback in the spread formation Lexington uses. Will was an ironman after the first game of the season. He missed some snaps in the first game with Smithville due to leg cramps. From that point on he centered every significant play for Lexington. He also called the blocking schemes for the line from his position. Holcomb also played defense more and more as the season progressed.

Josh Murray Josh Murray Murray was one of the most exciting players the Eagles put on the field. He was chosen as a defensive back because of his 160 tackles, five interceptions, and five fumble recoveries. Josh was the safety, the last line of defense for the Eagles. He contributed a huge amount offensively with 65 pass receptions for 1006 yards and 11 touchdowns. The longest was a huge 95-yard reception against Thorndale.

Kogan Garrett was selected as the third team quarterback. According to our statistics, he passed for 2,969 yards and rushed for 1,129 yards for 4,098 total yards. The result was 53 touchdowns, 24 rushing and 29 passing. Garrett will be on several college teams’ radar as he enters his senior season for the Eagles in 2012.

Jason Washington was picked as a third team receiver for his 1,179 yards and 12 touchdowns. Not mentioned was his 111 yards on punt returns, 228 on kick off returns, 87 yards rushing, and 15 yards passing.

Kogan Garrett Kogan Garrett Unfortunately Lexington’s tackling machine, Antonio Washington, was left off the selections, which I believe was an oversight on the part of the Statesman.
