Eagles Win District Opener

Havard hits 9 straight
by Mike Organ

Donnie Havard’s nine consecutive points with just over three minutes remaining in the game, keyed Lexington to a 41-30 win over the Academy Bumblebees.

Lexington had opened an eleven-point lead in the first half, using defensive pressure from a full court press. Havard had seven points in the first half with a three and a pair of deuces.

Academy worked hard in trying to overcome Lexington’s quickness, but the Eagles stole the ball numerous times and forced turnovers.

Jason Washington, A.J. Flot, and Josh Murray flashed in front of intended Bees to steal the ball away.

Academy seemed to get the Eagles solved in the third period as they outscored Lexington 15-5. The 10 points erased all but one point of the Eagles’ lead.

The fourth period saw lead changes four times. With Lexington clinging to a 29-28 lead, Havard dropped a three-point shot. He followed with two breakaway layups following steals, and then a twisting shot.

This District Opener Win for the Eagles should provide momentum for upcoming games.
