Mignonette Florine Preuss

March 21, 1928 - December 19, 2011

Mrs. Preuss passed away the morning of Monday, December 19, 2011 at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center in Houston.

Mignonette Florine Pratho Preuss was born on March 21, 1928 in Giddings, Texas to Paul J. & Marie (Proske) Pratho. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School from 1934- 1941, Giddings High School from 1941-1945 and Texas Lutheran College from 1945-1947, where she graduated with an Associates Degree in Business Administration.

She began her business career at an early age, working as a sales clerk in her father’s store, Pratho’s Store, from 1940-1945. Upon her graduation from Texas Lutheran College, she became the first Executive Secretary for Monroe Hannes of the First National Bank of Giddings from 1947-1950.

She married George Lee Preuss on March 28, 1948.

In 1949, they opened up a Lexington branch of Preuss Cleaners, and moved their residency to Lexington the following year. Two years later, they opened a dry good store adjoining the cleaners, where Mignonette worked until 1959, when she became a homemaker upon the birth of their first son, Paul.

She was active in the Walther League youth organization, the Texas Lutheran College Choir, the Luther League, Saint James Lutheran Church of Lexington Ladies Aid, and Lexington School District PTA.

Her interests included gardening, antiques, cooking, sewing, local history, genealogy and heritage research. She assisted Daphne Garrett as a resource and contributor for the publication of the book entitled: “Giddings Deutsches Volksblatt A History of the Newspaper and Print Shop of the Texas Wends”.

In 1985, she and her husband George moved to Victoria, Texas, where she lived until George’s death in 2005. She then moved to Houston to reside with her oldest son, Paul.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Preuss, and her brother, Paul M. Pratho M.D. of Aledo, Texas.

She is survived by her two sons, Paul M. Preuss of Houston, and Byron L. Preuss of Houston.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10: 00 a. m. on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings.

Burial will follow in the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 from 2:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday, December 22, 2011 from 7:00 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to The National Scoliosis Foundation.
