From the Superintendent of Schools
We have many things to be thankful for at Lexington ISD. We work in a great community that is very supportive of our students and schools. Our teachers, principals, and coaches do a wonderful job of developing our children’s characters and helping them become the best they can be in academics, athletics and the arts; we were able to make our budget reductions in such a way that we were able to save people’s jobs; and our students continue to experience so much success. I feel very thankful to have been welcomed into the Lexington community as your superintendent this past year and a half, and to have gotten to know so many of you.
Last week, I received great news from the Texas Education Agency confirming LISD’s Recognized State Rating, as well as the Gold Performance Acknowledgements awarded to our district and our schools because of the 2011 TAKS results. The district received a Gold Performance Award in College Ready Graduates, and in the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) in both Language Arts and Mathematics. The TSI demonstrates student gains in College Readiness. Our schools received many Gold Performance Acknowledgements. Our elementary was recognized in both Language Arts and Science, our middle school was recognized for our students’ outstanding performances in Writing, and our High School was awarded a Gold Performance Acknowledgement for the high number of students who scored at the commended level in Social Studies, for the percentage of College-Ready Graduates, and several awards for the excellent performance of our students on the Texas Success Initiative. I am so proud of our students and teachers. Our students are succeeding because of our teachers’ amazing determination to continually improve our students’ academic achievement.
On behalf of our trustees and our staff, I want to wish everyone a blessed Thanksgiving holiday.
