Suicide Attempt Averted

The Lexington Police reported this week that on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, at 12:23 a.m., Officer Gaskamp was dispatched to the 1000 block of Cherry Drive reference a suicidal person. He encountered a person there who had been holding a sawed off shotgun to his head, claiming he wanted to kill himself. Officer Gaskamp took the person into protective custody because he was a danger to himself and others, and transported him to Austin where he was committed under an Emergency Peace Officers Protective Order. The shotgun was seized because it violates both state and federal law due to its barrel length. Federal and state weapons violations charges will follow pending an indictment.
