Giddings’ 2011 season came to a close Friday night at A&M Consolidated field with a 28-18 loss to the Bellville Brahmas. Giddings ends the season 7-4 with the loss.

Giddings took the early lead on a Michael Rangel field goal of 44- yards. This was on Giddings’ opening drive of the game. The Buffs looked impressive with Joseph Glenn and Deon Hickey doing most of the honors on the ground.

Giddings then hit a high short kickoff aimed at avoiding any type of Bellville return. It backfired when the Brahma blocker cleared out the Giddings pursuit and the kick off was returned 66-yards for the go ahead touchdown.

Giddings holding on to the football problem came up and hindered the Buffs the rest of the game. After one Giddings fumble that stopped a drive, Bellvilles’s Jamal Reese launched a long pass that DeeBrae Parkter ran under for a 67-yard scoring play. Bellville held the lead 14-3 at halftime.

Late in the third quarter, Bellville drove down into the red zone. On third and goal the Brahmas’ hit paydirt again on a throwback pass to Brian Crider. As everyone was drifting to the right side of the offense, Crider came from the tight end on the right side to the left where he was all alone for the scoring pass.

With the game progressing into the middle of the fourth quarter, Giddings decided to try the spread offense. Jacky Wade did an excellent job of throwing the ball. The first score, he found Deon Hickey on a 39-yard scoring pass right down the left hash marks. With Rangel’s kick, the score was 21-10 Bellville.

Giddings’ onside kick attempt was good and two completions later, Wade found Hickey open again for another score. Glenn rushed for the PAT to make the score 21-18.

It was here the Bellville offense rose to the occasion. They took the kickoff and marched down the field, making a first down four different times on the drive on third down. One had to be measured and the first down was awarded by the stripe on the football. On a first down play, Bellville’s LaKieth Nunn broke loose in the middle of the Buff defense for 22 yards and the death knoll touchdown.

Giddings tried for some more magic in the passing game, but suffered an interception to end the night and the season.
