Pictured above are women from various countries around the world who love quilts and quilting. They visited Gerline’s Quilt Shop and the Quilting Angels in Giddings last week, after attending the International Quilt Festival in Houston. PHOTO BY SALLY FENLY. During the last week, ten bus loads of quilters traveled from the International Quilt Festival in Houston to Central Texas. Natives of Sweden, Canada, Japan, Jerusalem, England, The Netherlands, Israel, Australia, Dubai UAE, Germany and most of the United States visited local quilt shops and toured the new Texas Quilt Museum in LaGrange and other points of interest in the area. They stopped at the Quilting Angels’ workshop in Giddings and were shown projects currently in production and were served refreshments by the Angels, compliments of Gerline’s Quilt Shoppe.

The travelers were particularly interested in the quilts the Angels are now sewing for an on-line auction to benefit the Texas Wildfire victims and fire departments of the Bastrop area. Unfinished quilt blocks were donated by many quilters and are being completed by the Angels. The auction will begin November 21 and end on December 7, 2011 at the web site www.couchbidder.com. To view the quilts prior to the auction, please call 979-542-3318.
