Tragic Death of Twin Brothers in Accident
Two Giddings men, twin brothers Ronald Charles and Donald Wayne Hentschel, died in a one-car rollover accident in Bastrop County Wednesday afternoon, November 2, shortly before 4 p.m. Ronald was driving the 2008 Chevrolet Express full size van on State Highway 95 north of Elgin. They were traveling southbound at approximately 70 to 75 miles per hour. The posted speed limit on that stretch of road is 65 mph.
According to a witness, who was traveling behind the van, the vehicle drove off the roadway and into the ditch, striking a concrete culvert, and came to rest on the west unimproved shoulder. The witness said the vehicle never indicated that the brakes had been applied.
Ronald’s wife, Jodi Ann was in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. She was taken by helicopter to Brackenridge Hospital in Austin with serious injuries.
Both brothers were declared dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Raymah Davis. An autopsy has been ordered.
The funerals for both Ronald and Donald were held Monday, November 7, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda.
DPS Trooper Darryl Tidwell investigated the accident.
