Eagles Win District!
The Lexington Eagles won District last Friday night as they defeated their rival, Rogers, in a 35-22 victory. The score finalized the number one spot on the 12-2A District roster. The Eagles will enjoy a bye this Friday, as the playoffs get started with contests between Rogers and Axtell; Franklin and Italy; Navasota and Sealy; Smithville and Columbus; Malakoff and Academy; and Frankston and New Waverly.
Lexington will enter the playoffs against the winner of the Frankston/New Waverly game, which will be held Saturday night at 7:00 in Buffalo.
Last year, the Eagles went to the State Championship playoffs against the Idalou Wildcats in the Class 2A Division II game. The Eagles were undefeated before playing in that game, which was the first time in 32 years they made it to the State Championship.
Giddings enters the first round of the playoffs in a three-way tie with Smithville and LaGrange for two playoff spots. Using the district tie-breaker, Smithville will go as the first place team in Division II and Giddings as the second. The results will have Smithville facing Columbus and Giddings facing Bellville Friday night at A&M Consolidated.
