Lady Eagles Block Florence
Lexington faced a must-win situation at Florence Tuesday night. The E-Gals responded with a four game win over the Lady Buffs. Aleece Moerbe and Johna Alford were two- hot fisted monsters at the net in the match. Moerbe had a season high for her, 15 kills and two blocks for 17 points. Alford had 12 kills, seven aces, and seven blocks for 26 points. Brittany Nichol had 29 good sets in the match. The sets were possible because of Alford’s 25 digs, Madison Bexley’s 16, and Karley Wren’s 16.
The win over Florence, coupled with a Lago Vista win over Cameron, produced a tie between Lexington and the Lady Yoe for third place.
Game 1-This game started off badly for Florence. Alford blocked a Lady Buff kill attempt for Lexington’s second point. An Alford kill got the third, another block got the fourth, and the rout was on. Moerbe followed with three kills in the next five points to make Florence aware they had more than one person to stop. Lexington went on to win the game 25-16.
Game 2-Lexington continued the blitz as they spiked out to a 6-0 lead before Florence could get a point. Three Alford kills, four Moerbe kills, two Alford blocks, a Karley Wren kill, and a Meaghann Wrinkle block led the Lady E-Gals to another 25-16 win.
Game 3-Lexington seemed to lose focus a little in this game. After dominating the first two games, bad serves and an improved Florence attack led to a narrow 23-25 win for Florence.
Game 4 - The loss in game 3 jolted Lexington back into focus. Once again Lexington opened a 6- 0 lead that included an ace by Madison Bexley and a Wren kill. Wren and Moerbe had three kills each in game four and Alford had five ace serves in the game, including the last four in a row to wrap up game and match 25-11.
