Green and Black Eagles Tie in 7th Grade Competition

The Golden Eagles of Bruceville- Eddy arrived in Lexington Thursday evening October 27, 2011 to take on the Green and Gold of Lexington. In the opening game of the evening, Bruceville- Eddy kicked off to Lexington. The first drive of the night for Lexington also scored the first points when QB #21 Nic Dillon went right for 53 yards. A completed pass in the right flats to #12 Ryan Garrison gave Lexington an early lead of 8-0. The first quarter ended with Bruceville-Eddy driving.

In the second period, Bruceville- Eddy sustained a drive and capped it offwitha5yardpassintotheend zone. A two point conversion was added, with the exact same pass that scored the touchdown. 8- 8. On Lexington’s second possession, Dillon went right again for 68 yards to score again. Dillon added the next two points with a QB right. Lexington was up on top again 16-8. Bruceville- Eddy’s second possession of the night started out on the Lexington 41 yard line. They tried a different approach by nice long pass plays that resulted in another score. A run up the middle was good for two and tied the score at 16-16 with 51 seconds in the half. Lexington went four and out, including an intentional grounding call that gave Bruceville- Eddy the ball on the Lexington 25 yard line with 4 seconds and time for one play. The play was an incomplete pass and we stood even at half. 16-16.

Lexington’s #66 Nathaniel Clifford kicked off to Bruceville-Eddy, sending the ball all the way back to the 12 yard line where the Golden Eagles started the third quarter. Bruceville- Eddy’s first play was a fumble that was recovered by Lexington, allowing Lexington to start their first drive of the second half on the Bruceville-Eddy 15 yard line. On Lexington’s first play, #17 Caleb Parkerson went left for 15 yards and a score. QB Dillon added two more and Lexington led 24-16. Clifford kicked off and Bruceville- Eddy started out on their 28 yard line. Marching down the field, a successful passing game lasted until the Lexington defense stiffened and the ball was turned over on downs on the Bruceville-Eddy 47 yard line. With a third and ten on the same 47 yard line, the third quarter ended.

Bruceville-Eddy held and the ball was turned over on downs on the Bruceville-Eddy 39 yard line. A slow drive down the field allowed the Bruceville-Eddy team to punch the ball across, coupled with a two point conversion and the score was all tied up again at 24-24 with 1:06 left in the game. Bruceville-Eddy lined up and tried an onside kick, but Lexington’s #54 Josh Lopez covered the ball and Lexington took over on the 50 yard line. The first play with less than a minute to go, the Lexington running back let go of the ball and Bruceville- Eddy recovered on their own 47 yard line. A run play for no gain and a timeout. A run play for 1 yard and a timeout. A half back pass to a wide open Bruceville-Eddy back was good all the way down to Lexington’s 23 yard line with 34 seconds left in a tied game. A 5 yard run up the middle to Lexington’s 18 yard line and Bruceville-Eddy called their last time out with 22 seconds left in the game. A run to the left was good for a first down and set up a first and goal for a long 7 yards and 9 seconds left. The referee put 15 seconds back on the clock and then started the count down 14..13..12.. Bruceville-Eddy QB dropped back for a pass into the right flats where Lexington’s #21 Nic Dillon stepped in front of it and took off. With time out and Nic Dillon streaking down the field, a loan Bruceville-Eddy Eagle was able to run him down for a nice tackle ending the game in a tie. 24-24.
