Amnesty for Library Fines

Food for Fines runs from October 31 to November 19, 2011
by Pamela Hutchinson, Library Director

The Giddings Public Library invites anyone with outstanding library fines to deliver nonperishable food items to the library during regular business hours and leave the library with a cleared account (up to $100 in fines). Court cases, non-returned items, or lost items are not eligible for the amnesty event. This “food for fines” event will serve two purposes: one - to clear up old fines, and two – to help others as the holidays are approaching.

To participate, library users should bring in any overdue library items along with unexpired, nonperishable food items to the check-out-desk. The library will only accept store-sealed items. One food item will equal $3.00 in library fines. Any fines under $3.00 will simply be written off in exchange for the food item and no cash refunds will be given.

All items collected will be donated to a local charity, to be distributed to needy families in the community. Everyone is encouraged to donate food to help those in need, even if you don’t owe any library fines.

Please contact the library for more information at (979) 542-2716.

Helping others is the mission of the Giddings Public Library.

The Giddings Public Library is located at 276 N. Orange St. in Giddings. You can reach them by phone at (979) 542-2716.
