Laura E. Hannes

July 26, 1931 - October 23, 2011

Laura E. Hannes, 80, of Lexington, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2011 at St Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. Services were held on Wednesday, October 26, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dime Box, with Pastor Ed Truelson officiating. Interment was in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Mrs. Hannes was born July 26, 1931 in Burleson County to Herman and Mary Engelmann. She was a retired production worker for Kellar Ladder and Chair Company. She was a very active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she was involved in the Helping Hands Outreach. Farming, ranching, and tending the animals were of special interest to her. She also enjoyed woodworking, painting, and sewing. Her baking and cooking skills were well-known in the area, especially her noodles, cinnamon rolls, cream cheese rolls and homemade bread. She always enjoyed a good game of dominoes and never missed “Country Music Mondays” in Giddings.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Walter H. Englemann, two brothers, Albert Englemann and James Englemann, and a sister, Estelle Haisler.

Survivors include her husband, Gilbert Hannes of Lexington; a son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Rhonda Engelmann of Caldwell; a daughter and son- in- law, Cynthia and Leroy Kazmir of Caldwell; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Marie Engelmann and Milton and Gladys Engelmann, all of Caldwell; a sister, Kathrine Korth of Caldwell; five grandchildren, Lori Kazmir, Chris Gutierrez, Jason Engelmann; Tanya Fitzgerald and Lukas Kazmir and seven great- grandchildren, Colton, Hunter, Ryan, Trinity, Reagan, Lyssa and Taylor.

Pallbearers were Jason Engelmann, Lukas Kazmir, Alvin Hannes, Jr., Chris Gutierrez, Dennis Engelmann and Don Haisler.
