James Howard “Jamie” Wright, Jr.

James Howard “Jamie” Wright, Jr. was born December 10, 1943 in Houston, the only child born to James Howard and Mable Clair (Corder) Wright. He started the first grade in Lexington and transferred to Rockdale the middle of his Junior year, graduating in 1962. He was baptized at Forest Grove Christian Church as a youth and was a member of Tanglewood Baptist Church.

Jamie worked in Houston as a machinist for many years. Moving back to Tanglewood, he managed the Tanglewood Christian Camp for 10 years before moving to Oil Systems, a software company that later became OSI Soft, in San Leandro, California, from January 1989 until he retired in July 2006, coming back to Tanglewood.

Jamie was a ham radio operator, his call letters were WB5THZ. Until 2003, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He loved being Santa Claus and many remember him as a photographer at their wedding. Jamie was a life member of the Castro Valley Masonic Lodge 515, also a member of the Rockdale Masonic Lodge 414, Lexington Masonic Lodge 138, Rockdale Eastern Star Chapter 23 and Lexington Eastern Star Chapter 996. He had been a volunteer with the EMS and Fire Department, on the Board of Directors at Hugh Wilson Cemetery Association and many other organizations to help with community affairs.

On May 24, 1991, he and Barbara N. Greenwood were married in Rockdale.

Jamie lost his valiant battle with cancer on Tuesday evening, October 11, 2011 at the Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale, reaching the age of 67. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents, Noah Eugene and Antha “Ivy” (Kelley) Wright and John Clifford and Mable Cornilus (Boswell) Corder. Aunt, Dauneta Marie Wright Caffey. Uncle, William Henry “Bill” Smith.

Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Barbara Wright of Tanglewood, son, James H. “Little Jamie” Wright, III of Austin, daughter, Renee Wright of Rockdale, 2 step daughters, Khris Starbuck & husband, Russell of Round Rock, and Pam Rutherford & husband, Brad of Pflugerville, 2 grandchildren, Rachel Starbuck of Round Rock and Benjamin Rutherford of Pflugerville; uncle, Oral Udell “Buddy” Caffey of Temple, aunt, Mason Olivia “Sis” Wright Smith of Pleasanton, California. Also, brother-in-law, James Greenwood & wife Irmi of Austin, sister-in-law, Mary Blevins & husband Wayne of Austin,and cousins, Donald Eugene Smith & wife Barbara of Pleasanton, California and Ricky Allen Caffey & wife Sherry of Temple.

Funeral services for Jamie Wright were held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 16, 2011 in the Tanglewood Christian Camp Chapel in Tanglewood. Masonic burial followed in the Hugh Wilson Cemetery in Tanglewood. Pastor David Atwood and Keith Hansburger were in charge of the graveside.

Pallbearers were Don Smith, Ricky Caffey, Ray Ramsey, K.C. Smith, Kyle Caffey, Josh Caffey, James H. Wright, III.

Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Menges, Bill Crawford, Reuel Cooper, Kelly Caffey Erdman, Jim Miller, members of Tanglewood Baptist Church, members of Forest Grove Christian Church, members of Castro Valley Masonic Lodge 515, members of Rockdale Masonic Lodge 414, members of Lexington Masonic Lodge 138, members of Rockdale Eastern Star Chapter 23 and members of Lexington Eastern Star Chapter 996.

Memorials may be made to Hugh Wilson Cemetery Association, Lexington E.M.S., Tanglewood Fire Department or to the Tanglewood Christian Camp.
